Jack-of-all-trades Michael Winterbottom had just finished his party docudrama 24 Hour Party People when he left for Pakistan for his docudrama In This World, a handheld digital film about the horrors of refugees.

Young Afghan cousins ​​Jamal and Enayat embark on the perilous journey of a refugee. From a Pakistani refugee camp, they set out for London full of hope, convinced that a better future awaits them there. Their journey takes them along smuggling routes, across borders, and through life-threatening situations. Each step brings them closer to their destination—but also further away from home, safety, and security.
