Three Kilometres to the End of the World
Cinema Forum Groningen
Nieuwe Markt 1, 9712KN Groningen GroningenA powerful and compelling drama from director Emanuel Pârvu, who uses a homophobic crime in a conservative Romanian village to look at the narrow-mindedness of his home country.
The film tells the story of 17-year-old Adi, who spends the summer in his home village in the Danube Delta. When he is brutally attacked one evening because of his homosexuality, his life changes drastically. His parents look at him differently, and the apparent peace in the village begins to crack. The film casts a critical eye on attitudes towards homosexuality in conservative Romanian rural life.
Three Kilometres to the End of the World premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm. The film was also Romania's entry for this year's Oscars.
