Transfer to the municipality
In 2023, De Kiepe was officially transferred to the municipality of Pekela. The foundation that previously managed it faced financial difficulties due to declining income and the aftermath of the pandemic. The municipality has promised to maintain the community function, ensuring that activities for residents can continue.

De Kiepe hosts a wide range of activities, such as village meetings, resident gatherings, and cultural presentations. It serves as a place where people come together to share ideas and plan for the future of Nieuwe Pekela.
Future plans
Since the current building is outdated, plans are being developed for a new community center. The wishes of local residents and organizations are central to this process. Until a new facility is realized, De Kiepe will remain the main location for social and cultural activities in the village.
