History of the Netherlands at Eurovision Song Festival

The Netherlands took part in the very first Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956, and have won on five occasions. Corry Brokken delivered their first victory in 1957 with Net Als Toen (‘Just Like Then’) before Teddy Scholten’s Een Beetje (‘A Little Bit’) topped the scoreboard in 1959.

Their third triumph arrived in 1969 when Lenny Kuhr’s De Troubadour tied for first place with three other entries from France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, in the Contest's only shared win. A fourth win came courtesy of Teach-In’s Ding-A-Dong in 1975, but it was Duncan Laurence who took Dutch success to new heights when in 2019 his song Arcade won the Contest, topped charts globally, and became the first Eurovision entry to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

Visual and Audio Brand Identity

The visual and audio brand identity for Eurovision 2025 was developed by Art Director Artur Deyneuve. Inspired by Switzerland's tradition of direct democracy, the design's central theme is 'listening', conveying the concept "Unity Shapes Love". Deyneuve explains:

"If we listen to one another, we find love."

The iconic Eurovision heart symbol represents dialogue, unity, and the unifying power of music. Pulsating hearts will serve as a core element, reflecting the millions of people brought together by Eurovision to celebrate music.

Audio Identity: Tradition Meets Modernity

The audio identity for Eurovision 2025 blends traditional Swiss sounds with modern beats. It features yodelling, the rhythmic Basel drum corps, and the distinctive music of the Hackbrett and alphorns. Artur Deyneuve says:

"We created a bold, high-energy track, with pumping beats and surprising musical effects to prepare the audience for an unforgettable experience."

Stage Design Inspired by Switzerland's Mountains and Diversity

Renowned Production Designer Florian Wieder, who has Swiss roots, created the stage design for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. Inspired by Switzerland's mountains and linguistic diversity, Wieder states:

"Our goal was to create a revolutionary stage concept – an immersive experience never seen before at Eurovision."

Reto Peritz and Moritz Stadler, Co-Executive Producers, praised Wieder's visionary work, describing it as a 'signature stage' that will be forever associated with Eurovision in Switzerland.
